?Ghana and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their partnership on climate adaptation and resilience ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in November. The two countries took the stance after Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the UK International Champion on Adaptation and Resilience for the COP26 Presidency and Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, completed a three-day working visit to Ghana. The visit comes ahead of the UK hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in November, leveraging the UK’s presidency to accelerate climate action – including a particular focus on adaptation and resilience in the most vulnerable parts of the world.
?President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday gave the assurance that government will construct a guinea fowl processing factory in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region. He said the factory would be constructed under the ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative, saying “In the same way under the ‘One District, One Factory’ policy, we are going to establish very soon, a guinea fowl processing factory here in Bawku.” President Akufo-Addo said this when he called on the Paramount Chief of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, as part of his day’s visit to the Upper East Region.
?The World Bank Migration and Development Report for 2021 has reported an increase of 5 percent to US$3.6 billion in remittances flows to Ghana despite the lockdown in many of the remittances sending countries. Host countries for Ghanaian migrants include the USA, the UK, Côte d’Ivoire, Italy, Germany, and Canada. The resilience of Ghanaian migrants has been commended in the face of the harsh economic impact on the top ten remittances sending countries because of the COVID-19. Madam Abibatou Wane, Chief of Mission, International Organisation for Migration (IOM), speaking at the GIZ- Ghana Programme Migration and Diaspora Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Remittance in Accra.
?Ghana Cocoa Board has disclosed it raised GH¢11.7 billion (US$2 billion) in cocoa produce bills between January and May 2021, Bloomberg has reported. Head of Finance and Administration at COCOBOD, Ray Ankrah explained that the outfit increased bill sales in order to help refinance maturing obligations and further plans to raise US$1.5 billion through syndicated loans for the upcoming crop season in October this year. In an interaction with Bloomberg monitored by GhanaWeb , Ankrah said COCOBOD has since exceeded its 2020-21 cocoa production target and subsequently stretched the US$1.3 billion syndicated loan that was earlier raised at the beginning of the season in October 2020. Cocoa farmers in Ghana have so far harvested 965,493 metric tons as of June 3, 2021 compared with a target of 900,000 tons for the whole crop year that ends in September 2021.
?In recognition of the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on African economies, the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, says the bank is willing to help West African countries accelerate growth and development to ensure economic stability. Speaking at the opening of the 59th ECOWAS Heads of State and Authority summit in Accra on Saturday, June 19, 2021, Mr. Adesina said the continent needs to build a strong healthcare system in order to recover. “The African Development Bank projects that Africa’s GDP growth will rebound to 3.4% this year. West Africa’s GDP growth is projected to recover from -1.5% in 2020 to 2.8% in 2021 and 3.9% in 2022.”
?President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that over the next 10 years the country will offer investment opportunities to the local and international investment communities to the tune of US$450 billion. He made the declaration to an audience of global CEOs on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, when he launched the Ghana Financing Roadmap for the realization of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
